Frequently Asked Questions
What is your therapeutic approach?
My approach to counselling is based on an eclectic model that incorporates a wide range of theories, methods and perspectives such as psychodynamic, cognitive behaviour, mindfulness based, interpersonal psychoanalysis, emotional regulation and behaviour modification. I take a holistic approach to counselling as I believe this provides a more comprehensive understanding of people's behaviour and enhances an individual's possibility for insight and positive change.
How many sessions will I need?
We will have to assess the number of sessions needed as therapy progresses; preferably we should agree together when it is time for therapy to stop. Nevertheless, you may wish to stop, for whatever reason, at any time, and you are welcome to resume therapy at any point in the future, subject to my availability of therapy time.
Can anyone participate in walk and talk therapy?
Most anyone can participate in walk and talk therapy, as long as there are no medical reasons that may prevent them from walking. As with any form of exercise, you should consult with a physician before starting.
Where do walk and talk sessions take place?
Walk and talk sessions take place on a trail near the office. Please note that I do not travel to client's homes or hold outdoor sessions elsewhere.
Is walk and talk therapy a cardio workout?
The emphasis during walk and talk therapy is on the therapy, the walking is a secondary benefit. If you prefer a traditional in-office setting, that can be arranged as well.
Do you accept insurance?
As a Registered Social Worker, your sessions may be eligible for reimbursement from your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or benefit provider. It is your responsibility to determine if your benefits cover the services of a Registered Social Worker. If you do seek reimbursement through your benefit or EAP provider and I am contacted to verify the charge, I will do so with your implied consent. My disclosure will be limited to the advisement of my credentials and the verification of billing information (registration number), services provided and persons served. No Information regarding the nature or content of our sessions will be discussed without signed consent from you.
What is the cost?
Individual session of 50 minutes is $130.00. Service fee may be subject to change each year, as advised. Please note that Social Worker therapy fees are HST exempt.
What are the payment methods?
I accept Visa, Master Card, Cheque, E-transfer or Cash.
What is informed consent?
Informed consent is a form that you are asked to sign in order to acknowledge that you read the information regarding our sessions and that you are in agreement with the content pertaining to our work together.
